Deacon  / Deaconess of Worship

(the role and responsibility)

 

          First let it be said that this description of the role and responsibility of the deacon of worship is designed as a guide to help empower and not inhibit the process of service. The aim and desire is for the corporate worship service to glorify God, lift up the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus, and edify the church body, all in decency and order. According to the customs of this fellowship and more importantly the demonstration of New Testament Scripture, it is desired to ensure that the following items be maintained in a manner that seems best for flow and continuity.

          Because the five primary acts of worship (*) are valued as necessary for pleasing our Lord it becomes important to ensure these items are conducted in a worthy manner by those who are deemed qualified to serve in each area of designation.

(it should be noted that there are other factors  that fall under the domain of this responsibility and that there are also other items that may take place within the confines of corporate worship as circumstance may require that will also require attention.)

·       Coordinate the manpower necessary to serve in the support of the worship experience in each of the following areas:

§       Welcome / Announcements, and opening prayer

§       Lead congregational singing

§       Serve at the Lords Table

§       Serve at the collection of the offerings

§       Reading of Scripture

§       Teaching/preaching

§       Closing prayer

§       Ensure that the Communion is prepared and placed

§       Ensure the auditorium is suitable for the worship experience

§       Ensure the sound system is on and functional

§       As needed coordinate the nursery attendants and greeters.

§       Help maintain time efficiency.
