There is Good Reason – He is God
(8-14-05)
Psalm 62
David does a marvelous job for us in showing us that God is God and worthy of our trust, after all He is God. David being king caused him to have many enemies. Each of us even if our kingdom is some what smaller ore also kings and queens. I say this not only because it is true, but because it is important for us each to grasp what David has to teach us.
David starts by confirming his place of existence before God. Like a servant who waits in silence for his masters every command so David waits. Who is this God he waits upon? The very one to whom salvation is dependent. Not only is salvation in the hands of the Almighty but much, much more. In God David finds the security and the stability and protection he was in need of.
So many peoples lives are troubled and vexed and in their despair they cry out to God and get angry because their plight is not improved by His mighty hand, Why? Often times because they have not lived their lives in waiting before God. Why? I think it is because of independent self reliance and a rejection of God as their master. Only in deep adversity do they cry out to God and then with an attitude of ‘God Fix This Mess! Or Else’; like can be commanded by the like of any one of us.
David shows us the dependent servant – master relationship of his life. Even when the world around David was collapsing and people were plotting and speaking slanderous lies and even before his face speaking praise and blessing, they were plotting his down fall. David affirms his trust in him who is trustworthy – God
David shares with us deep truth; honor of worth and value is found in God. How worthless is all the glory and honor and praise of men when God is left disappointed. Worthless! If we fail to please God in our walk of life any praise and glory a person might receive from the world will be hallow.
David exhorts us also as a recipient of this psalm to trust in God. Pour out your heart before Him. Notice to who David is Speaking (verse 8) Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Is Jesus our Lord and Savior? Are we His people? When the Old Testament speaks of God is the Son, who’s name is Jesus, included? Do we share a kinship to David fellow servants of the one true and mighty God? With this all being true, to what or whom do you put your trust and reliance.
We each may at times pour out hearts but I think we more or less do so in a whiny complaining way. David is asking for an emptying out a pour out of our hearts before the Lord. "Lord this is who I am and what my life is like and these are the things I am struggling with. I desire my life to be more than this." Why? Because we are a vapor, a momentary mist.
If anyone’s life is to have true value and meaning then it must be understood that in relationship to Lord is that found. "One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done."
Jesus is Lord, our refuge, strength, and honor!
