Gen.4:2b-7
From the birth of mankind there has been a need. It is true that need does generate action. That action generated by the need is the creative principle that seeks a resolution to the need. The problem we often face is our total unawareness of the need. The other problem we often face is the hugeness of the need. Both problems are fertile for conception. (James 1:14-15)
GE 6:5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.
Can you identify the need and it’s fertility in God’s own words?
1. What is the need?
2. What was the invention generated by the need to resolve it?
3. Did the invention resolve the problem?
4.
What is the need? (don’t confuse cause and effect)
GE 4:6 Then the LORD said
to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you
do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right,
sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master
it."
In this passage God speaks to Cain about the need but even here the need
is not totally visible. Any doctor will tell you that treating the symptoms is
not the same as administering the cure. What is also true if the cure is
administered the symptoms will go away of their own accord. In Genesis 4:6-7 The
Lord gives insight into the need. This need is a hereditary problem in that it
is inherited from the parents. The origin then of the need is found in Cain’s
parentage.

3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and
pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and
ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
In this passage is found three hints to the need.
1.
Saw the fruit was good for
food
2.
Saw the fruit was pleasing to
look at
3.
Saw
the fruit was able to bring about wisdom
Eve,
by here evaluation of the fruit was showing that the need was looking for
conception and that conceptions birthing. John, centuries later, writes
concerning these same three hints.
16 For everything in
the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of
what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world.
(1Jn.2:15-17)
1.
The Cravings of …
2.
The Lust of his eye…
3.
The boasting of what he has
and does..
The
need that generates invention is deep within the fabric of mankind’s
existence. The law given to Moses
and all that followed did not bring a cure because it did little more than deal
with the symptoms of the core problem. (see Col.2:23) [a hint: sensual]
The
need, which cries for invention to resolve, is our nature. (See Romans 8) Jesus
is the invention generated by God to fix or resolve the base need of humanity.
The voice of our fleshly nature is overruled by the voice of the Spirit.
