“Biography” or “Chapters” ( Luke 1:1-4 LK
1:1 Many
have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have
been fulfilled n
among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by
those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the
word. 3 Therefore, since I myself have carefully
investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also
to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent
Theophilus, 4 so that you may know the certainty of
the things you have been taught.
A biography is the researched, written, historically
accurate, story of a persons’ life. What if the story being
written was about you? The
shortest version of anyone’s life story can usually be found in
the obituaries of our local newspapers or on the tomb stone
itself. So what would your story read like? Would it include the
greater things you had done? How about the things that occupied
the bulk of your hearts devotion and time?
What would those things be?
I wonder how big of a difference in views there would be
between your own perspectives about yourselves and the
perspectives of those who knew you first hand? Those who lived
and worked beside you, maybe even those who slept next to you or
lived under the same roof? The passions that drove you, the fears
that ruled you, the closets that remained dark and hidden. Your
greatest joys and saddest regrets, your deepest longings
shallowest shortcomings, all exposed for the worlds review and
judgments. In the researching of you life the question that is
asked is; ‘What about God, did they (you) believe in God?’
‘ And if so, how did that belief change their (your) life?’
What would the answer to these questions and those that follow
the natural course of your answering sound
like. When I look at
scripture I see people of all kinds, some driven by great passion
because of their belief and acceptance of God and yet others who
were not moved an inch in any positive direction by what they
believed about God. Many going to their graves with an
expectation for nothing but misery and suffering. (Eph.2:11-13
‘…without hope…’) When we looked over this fellowship of
people, what does the story read like? I think most
of us would like our stories to be written a little different
than reality might present them as, wouldn’t we? The truth is,
there is being written a story of each of your lives, with
accuracy, truthfulness, and finality. This story will stand in
review at your judgment. (yikes!) The good news is, the story is
still being written, the ending yet hidden in the future, the
mysteries’ end yet to be decided by you. How will you choose to
have the ending written? Some things to think over: ·
How
important is pleasing Jesus going to be to me? (What does He take
pleasure in? What are the important things to Jesus? ) ·
How
important are my relationships to me? (will the people I love and
care about be heaven because of me, or worse, not go because of
me?) ·
How
important are the things that now hold a high place in the
attention of my life? (am I caring about things that have no real
value except my own entertainments?) · What can I do, starting now to make the next chapter read better than the previous chapters?
