Road Kill

( 8-20-06 )

Luke 8:11-15

We are all on a journey. We are each traveling the road  of life and none of us know when we will finish what was started many years ago. The challenge of this journey is to not end up as road kill. You know those poor unfortunate creatures who didn’t make it across the highway as they went about in there own little world. Pow! KerrThump! Splat! (maybe with two or three t’s) You get the picture.

In the reading for today Jesus is telling the disciples the meaning of one of His parables (the Parable of the Sower.)This storey is about road kill. All people are on the journey, the road of life journey, and getting to heaven is conclusion to a person’s successful completion of their travel. Not all who travel the road make it to the goal. Truth is far too many don’t know there is a goal and loss.

Some things that need to be watched for:

·        (Verse 12) the highway robber – the devil

·        (Verse 13} bald tires

·        (Verse 14) tourist traps

·        (Verse 14) vacation resorts

·        (Verse 14) vehicle concerns

Things that help survive the journey to reach the goal:

·        (Verse 15) a good and noble  heart

·         (Verse 15) recognition of true value

·        (Verse 15) humanitarian labors

Where your at, what you have, who you are , and what you do is not what the journey is about. How you employ all of those things as you travel life’s road is what it is all about.
